Takean Warrior R.C.C.

By: Stephen W. Sangster (csangst@ibm.net)

Deep in the Australian interior known as the Outback there lives a race of fierce tribal warriors called the Takean. Soon after the coming of the rifts this society of hunters and warriors came to inhabit a large portion of the wasteland which dominates so much of post apocalyptic Australia. The Takean people trace their origins back to the same world as the infamous Brodkil demons of Europe, and these two powerful cultures have brought with them to earth a fierce racial hatred that has endured for centuries. The Brodkil were actually the first of the two races to discover the continent of Australia, colonizing a small portion of the outback and terrorizing it's human populace. The Takean culture is not as outwardly violent as the Brodkil, in fact they are more likely to begin a trade relationship than a war with a non threatening civilization. Upon discovering the link to this new world the Takean began a large scale migration to the Australian continent, in the resulting war the Takean decimated the Brodkil invaders with a savagery that betrayed the darkest side of their people. A century later, no Brodkil demon has been seen anywhere in Australia.

The Takean are a race of tall muscular humanoids with dense tan hides and a mane of sixteen inch long, bronze coloured quills which they can hurl with deadly accuracy. They are bipedal and their heavily muscled arms end in two thick fingers and an opposable thumb. They disdain the use of modern armours and weaponry preferring to rely on their natural abilities in close combat, however they do realize the need for long range mega damage weapons. Takean warriors are particularly fond of rail guns and flechette weapons.

Damage: Punches and kicks are as per supernatural strength tables. The dense veil of quills which covers the back, shoulders, and backs of the arms is more than just a defensive tool. When angered or threatened a Takean's spikes will begin to vibrate, generating a sound reminiscent of a very large rattle snake. Although this may seem strange to humans, the Brodkil have learned to associate this sound with impending death. Takean are also the only race known to have evolved a biological equivalent to vibro blades. A complex muscle structure vibrates the sixteen inch long spikes at an incredibly high frequency when combat is imminent. The result is effectively the same as charging up a vibro knife, causing a slight hum and enshrouding the warrior in MDC weaponry. These same muscles allow a Takean to hurl a volley of quills (yes Mike still vibrating) at an opponent, or fire a single prong with deadly accuracy and force. In hand to hand combat the quills add 5d6 mega damage to normal punch & kick damage. As a missile weapon the vibro quills have an effective range of 100 metres, use the exact same rules as for modern weapons with a standard rate of fire, payload is not generally a concern since there are thousands of quills and they are constantly regenerating. Thrown spikes do 2d6 mega damage each plus any strength bonus, since they are a thrown weapon hand to hand bonuses apply.

Notes: Takean are likely to attack, brutalize, and generally abuse any Brodkil Demon they come across, barring only cases of extreme impropriety.
